CLIMBING UP THE LADDER...it's one step at a time for this newly formed nonprofit...and we are gaining more interest as we move forward with spreading the word out there about what we are doing in the community. It's been a challenge to work on biz proposals and plans in-between painting and processing paperwork for apprentices...but I'm managing to pull it off nicely. And it's amazing how quickly the universe responds once you are focusing on the goal. Right now the goal is the HC&S wall...we want it badly. Apparently theres many others who are interested so not sure it's already spoken for. Much controversy over this wall too...which means whoever is approving final mural will be looking for something that will satisfy all parties.
Had a blast painting this tapa wall installation (Design by Karl Hensel)
I decided to create something that doesn't display people...and get people to realize that it's not about people...it's more than that. And since the Muralist chosen would be controversial; should it be a local? a graffiti artist? a family member?....well, why not turn it over to our keikis? That's just what I did...in the proposal we are suggesting high school students be carefully selected to help construct final piece. Now how's that for a great proposal; a mural design "Fish Out Of Water" painted by high school students (who must have at least a 3.0 GPA to apply). It's a long shot going up against many talented local artists with seasoned portfolios...but I'm not giving up until all votes are in (;
I'm feeling really good about proposal (turning in next week Monday!) because for some reason I keep meeting people who are either on the board or have been on the board for HC&S! Our conversations keep ending up like, "I've been working on a proposal for A&B/HC&S" and their response, "Oh yea? I'm on the board, so what's your proposal about?" WOW ask and you shall receive. But if for some reason we get denied, mural can be for another wall that the students can paint on...because that is what is really important, our keikis creativity, their future.
In the meantime, I'm painting day and night for the next week...yes, week ugh*...have to finish a couple commission pieces (yay!!! love when people love my art enough to purchase for their personal collection!) and have other projects that involve building, gardening, studying, etc. Planning to hibernate indoors and around the hale till next week...when my girly is back from vacation. Always like to change up the hale so there's something interesting to see when she returns (:
I am working on exciting paintings that will be up for sale if they get into exhibition...a genie, a vintage portrait with fish heads, a couple of mermaids, and some papermache skeleton pieces (((:
I wish I had a huge studio to work on all projects at once, but I'll try to keep updates here.
(this post has not been edited, apologies for typos and run ons from too much caffeine! lol!)

What's your wish?

See you on the other side,
~M.
