PAINTING FOR CHANGE
If our voices aren't heard, then let us speak through art....my art (;
Never thought of myself as an activist...but if the shoe fits I guess...then ok, but I like to call myself an ag-tivist instead. The march in Lahaina was tough in the heat and little water...but when we made it to the end...there was fresh coconut water being cracked open with a machete as much as we could drink...and another reminder that the food we eat will sustain us and replenish our health if we grow it with a higher consciousness. I am still having my identity issues with my passport & DL (recieved another extension til next month!!)...but when you are part of a community that supports your intent for the future...you feel connected to a Maui Ohana, people that share your beliefs and want the same for your generations future. I realized walking that it didn't matter who I was, what my legal name is, where I work, etc...what mattered was helping eachother make the goal. I apologize if this post is a bit jumbled...kapakahi "mixed up" but it's late 12am...and I am determined to get this message out there about putting effort to make a change. Staying determined to push yourself not to give up the "fight" to live...yes to LIVE!! I want to live a long HEALTHY life!!! And it won't happen by expecting others around me to hold up my sign, paint my murals, or march for the cause...we all need to take part, be stronger with unity, encourage eachother, and most importantly, educate everyone on the importance of a thriving organic soil...that will produce a sustainable abundance of healthy foods.
I haven't been on FB for a couple months or here posting, but this message needed to be here...because it's a part of everyones responsibility who needs or wants a better future for generations to remain thriving. Because if the O'o bird is an extinct species...why couldn't it happen to our species? It can and it will if we are not careful. EDUCATION IS KEY....take a workshop, read a book on organic soil, permaculture, land trusts, join the Permaculture Guild of Maui...in other words, don't just do nothing to help create change. And even though there's a $50 membership fee to join the HFUU, I'm considering myself a member until I have it all saved up anyway..through volunteering and no matter what, I'm suiting up for the field!...because I believe in the mission; "advocate for the sovereign right of farmers to create and sustain vibrant and prosperous agricultural communities for the benefit of all Hawaii through cooperation, education, and legislation." I am an EcoArtist building her first large edible garden. I'm looking for kokua and willing to learn and organizations like Shaka Movement & HFUU are the perfect opportunity to offer my skills in a way that has an impact on the changes needed to maintain optimal health for our species & planet. Ok...my eyes are pretty blurry...going to edit tomorrow...err..I mean today, it's now almost 1am! Time for moemoe!
See you on the other side,
~M.
