"THE NEW LOGO IS HERE! THE NEW LOGO IS HERE" (Steve Martin voice from the movie The Jerk) well, it's not as exciting as a new phonebook, but it's a start to something awesome, like mural designs, artworks, community events, and so much more! It's definitely a rough sketch...will probably go through changes in next few weeks as we prepare to present our proposal (say that 3xs fast! hehe..) We (myself, so far) will be asking the Hawaiian Homelands Commission to have the opportunity to highlight Hawaiian heritage through an amazing mural design. We have our eye on the wall near Kihei (as mentioned in previous post), so please keep fingers crossed we are considered, accepted, and approved to move forward with wall prep. This mural (besides my design donated to the Hawaii Farmers Union United in 2015), will be one I would be most proud to paint. I've lived here in Hawai'i for many years and would love the opportunity to pay respects to the gracious Hawaiian ancestry and the people of Hawaii. With so much controversy surrounding this land, it will be refreshing to drive by and be reminded of the Aloha way, the spirit that is in all who live in Hawaii. We must show the world we can thrive as one people on this planet wherever we are blessed to call home...why not start examples of peace among communities here in paradise?
In working with many different groups and organizations throughout my career, I've noticed there's one group that seems to be lifted up above all negatives as much as possible....our youth, our children, our keikis that are all watching us, our every move, every word that we speak, they make mental files of everything. It's important we work together to display acts we want repeated in our keikis future. By having highschool students participate, who have taken the steps to apply and fulfill grade point average we are making mandatory, will ensure the students who are selected have every right to be there to represent the people and youth of Hawaii. Wow, gives me "chicken skins" for real! I remember my first experience with mural design was after being selected to work on project by a panel of judges, it was pretty intense. I'm so proud to say I took 2nd place in my first Jewish art show. I know I know...I'm not Jewish, but my art teacher wanted me to enter, so I did. And here I am years later writing about it on my art blog...pretty cool (:
I'll post our sketch we are presenting so you can help me meditate on the commission accepting our proposal. Then we hit the ground running with more requests for grants, sponsorships, donations from organizations that have recently received $$$$$ lots of funds specifically for nonprofits that promote arts & music!! yay!! Excited about the future...no sleep lately, but so excited I can't sleep anyway! Today and tomorrow I get to attend a 2-day workshop at Maui Tropical Plantation to gather information and promote Korean Farming practices on gardenpartymaui.com a new website that will be launched next month. Here's where permaculture design and art meet, where spirituality and vibrational energy are shown! So much information we are trying very hard to bring to the masses! Hoping by next month we are more knowledgable about TV, and doing more amazing projects with art (:
See you on the other side,
~M.
